For children in kindergarten or under 6 years old, New Haven Youth Soccer offers a fun program aimed at helping kids gain familiarity with basic ball skills. Once kids are registered with the program, you may bring them to any or all of the following practice sessions, which are offered in a variety of locations around the city. All practices are optional.

Practice is canceled if rain is heavy or fields are too wet. Cancellations will be posted on the main web site (www.NHYSoccer.org and announced on the phone line, 467-3273).

Please bring a water bottle and your (size #3) soccer ball.

Tuesdays:4:00 – 5:00 East Rock Park (Directions)

Thursdays: 4:00-5:00 East Rock Park (Directions)

Saturdays: 9:00am-10:00am East Rock Park (Directions)

Saturdays: 9:00-10:00am Beecher School, 100 Jewell St.

In this age group, kids do not play formal or competitive games as a team. Instead, our practice drills/games teach children the skills they will need to play on a team at 6-7 years old. All practices are optional, but of course the more you practice, the better you play. Parent participation/assistance with practice is always appreciated!

Please note that children 4 and under often lack the physical development and concentration to enjoy clinics. Parents know their own kids best, but we find that three-year-olds do not typically have a good experience in these programs, and in fact many 4-year-olds are better served if they wait to sign up until they are close to 5.

New players can use an extra New Haven Youth Soccer ball at practice.

Ask at practice where to buy a #3 ball for a good price.

New players are welcome (with a parent/guardian) to register at any NHYSoccer K/U6 practice.

Special soccer equipment (cleats, shin guards, etc.) is NOT required at this age; buy only what you need!
